My Father's Bookshelf
My father had a spendid collection of pulp fiction, primarily sf. It was the main source of my early reading, and set some of my reading attitudes for life. I still prefer the "literature of ideas" to any other, and my preference in stories is still the classic "flawed hero seeking goal has to overcome obstacle that tests flaw, grows as a result." I have come to enjoy many other kinds of stories, but I always come back to "the real kind".I've collected a very subjective history of science fiction from the 1890's through the 1950's -- the sf I grew up on, from my father's bookshelf. Other sf/fantasy pages I've put together:
- SF Movies
- Fantasy, favorite books, humorous fantasy, fantasy movies, sf/fantasy writers resources, fantastic women writers
- Welcome to the Commonwealth, Tracking the Wild Allusions in Sivlverlock, the fantasy classic by John Myers Myers
- Religious Themes in Science Fiction
- Some of My Favorite Authors & Poets, including my pages for Chad Oliver, Spider Robinson, Orson Scott Card, and Terry Pratchett.
